Markus Stauffacher graduated in zoology at the University of Basel and obtained a doctorate in zoology at the University of Bern in 1988. This recipient of prestigious research prizes and three-time winner of the Golden Owl teaching award has been senior scientist at ETH Zurich since 1994. From 1996 to 2011 he was responsible for special fields at the University of Zurich’s Vetsuisse School. He is an animal protection expert on the Council of Europe since 1997 and the ETH Zurich Executive Board’s animal welfare delegate since 2010.
